Foodie Penpal Reveal!!

The Lean Green Bean

I discovered this completely magnificent program over at The Lean Green Bean a while back and finally got the chance to join up for the August swap!

Its pretty straight forward. You get assigned a penpal for the month, and you send them food! Someone else gets your name, and they send you food! I’m 99% sure that food showing up on your door step is the greatest thing ever.

Then at the end of the month you reveal what you got on your blog (or you just eat it and don’t reveal it if you don’t have a blog!).

Coconut water, coconut water with mango and peach (my 2 favorite fruits!!) dark and milk chocolate from Enjoy LIfe (I LOVE there chocolate- soy, nut and dairy free, totally vegan), Jif natural peanut butter (that was gone in about 20 seconds….) gluten free sugar cookie mix and some delicious fruit and seed trail mix!!

All packed up in a fantastic bin! (Which will now be storing mason jar rings and lids…. I have 6 million of them and no where to put em!)

How to Make Flower Chain Jewelry

This week my house is a mad house. Delilah has decided that sleeping is optional and is (I believe) either having a growth spurt or teething. She’s up every half hour/hour to eat at night and fussy all day. I was planning on making some fancy Pad Thai with jackfruit seeds for dinner tonight and got as far as cooking and chopping the seeds, when Delilah decided I didn’t need to finish.

So today’s post is going to be short, sweet and just for fun =)


This really is one of the easiest crafts out there, but its so much fun and a surprising amount of people don’t know how to do it!

The first step is to pick flowers. We used white clover flowers for ours. Make sure you pick them with stems long enough to tie into a knot (or have super nimble fingers so you can tie short lengths of stem!). Pick at least a dozen for a necklace, or 4-ish for a child sized bracelet. Its really a matter of how long the stems are and how big or small your body is.

What you do is take two flowers (flowers a and b) and tie flower A’s stem in a knot right behind flower B’s flower.

You have to be very gentle when you tighten the knot or you’ll just rip the stems and have to start over. And that’s it! Just keep tying on more flowers until you’ve reached the length you want.


You can do this with all kinds of flowers and thoroughly impress anyone under the age of 10!



Rory and Gage (my niece and nephew) were both very excited to get necklaces and bracelets made from flowers. My niece, Rory, had me make a, ‘Bracelet for Delilah’s foot.’ Also know as an anklet. And Gage, my nephew, had to have a bracelet for each arm and a necklace. Just like all the other cool kids have.

Now you know how to make flower chains! Maybe you’ll even come up with a non-child use for them =)

The Final Real Food Challenge Days

Well, its been fun! I enjoyed reading all the others’ blog posts and seeing how they did! I enjoyed all the real foodie goodness!

So for the final days I did cheat a bit. I was traveling to Pittsburgh to visit my grandma for my bridal shower and they made cookies at the shower. They were homemade but used refined white sugar…. And I ate waaaaaaaay to many =)

But we did have grass fed, free range beef tacos with tons of greens on top for lunch as well as homemade organic, heirloom tomato salsa. (Delish!!!)


I also had some super delicious green salsa made from heirloom tomatoes (BEST salsa EVER!! Thanks mom!) on some oven roasted organic nachos with some freshly shredded cheese. Yummmmyyy!


Honestly, that’s the highlights of the last days. Nothing else was exciting (or it was just the same as other days).

Couch to 5K Challenge!


The 7 day real food challenge got me stuck on challenges so now I want to do my own!!

You may have heard of the Couch to 5K before, you may have even done it or tried to do it!

I have been wanting to do it for ages but never did. As soon as I decided I wanted too I found out I was pregnant. And your not supposed to start new stuff when your pregnant, just continue what you were doing. So I never did. I’ve been trying to get my hands on a jogging stroller since she was born so I could start and am finally gonna have a little extra money next week to get one.

My fiancé also wants to get back into running. He had to run and get Delilah her binky and was out of breath and decided its time to get back in shape, haha!

So I’ve come up with a master plan!!

Here’s the deal-

I have trouble sticking with exercise routines and I generally have very little interest or motivation to continue them. This time I feel very motivated to actually go through with it, so that’s a good start. However, if other people join me (or at the very least I’m accountable to someone i.e. you followers!) I won’t be able to quit.

Beginning August 1st, ending October 3rd, 3 days a week, half an hour a day I will be doing the Couch to 5k! At the end of which I will run a 5K 3 times a weeks to stay in shape.

What on earth is the couch to 5k?

Well its an exercise program (and there’s an app for your smart phone!) that can take any beginner runner and in 9 weeks you’ll be able to run a 5k! (5K is equal to a tad over 3 miles). The work outs are 3 days a week, half an hour each. The first week you start with a 5 minute warm up walk, then you alternate running 60 seconds with walking 90 seconds for 8 repetitions followed by a 5 minute cool down walk. The next week the running time increases and so on. It trains you slow enough to get your body used to it. Instead of going out, trying to run, then giving up because you did too much too fast and it hurt too bad.

So, why are you posting about it?

As I said earlier, I’d love to be accountable to you guys. Every week I will share a post on what this weeks work out is, how I’m doing, how I’m feeling, if I’ve lost weight, if it hurts, if I feel better about myself etc. Anyone who wants to join me can comment and let me know how you feel! Any bloggers who want to join will be linked back to this post and can share their own posts on it! It’ll be a fun way to get active and do the same routine as others and see all the results. I will share more often on my Facebook about it, but I hate having tons of repetitive blogs posts all the time, so it’ll just be one per week on the blog.

Real Food Challenge Days 3 and 4

I’m combing days 3 and 4 because I had a slight problem with my auto-post so nothing got posted when it was supposed too (operator error….). This is also the reason its been 3 whole days since I posted. So your getting 2 posts today instead of 1!

The real food challenge is going really well!! Enjoying lots of delicious food and getting some wonderful recipes from the other bloggers!

Here’s some of the more exciting things I’ve eaten the past few days (I won’t bore you with pictures of glasses of water or pictures of apples…)


Purple potatoes and onions cooked in coconut oil (my favorite!). Purple potatoes having a lower starch content then other potatoes which gives them a better taste and they are also high in antioxidants!


Fried queen Anne’s lace flowers and roasted Portobello mushroom tops with mozzarella cheese.


BEAUTIFUL organic heirloom tomatoes =)


Pre-cooked purple potatoes (since they’re so beautiful!)


Homemade organic real food chocolate oatmeal cookies.


Even Delilah is getting in on the action!! Munching on a frozen organic heirloom carrot to help her poor teething gums!

So far its a delicious week!

Real Food Challenge Day 2

The 7 day Real Food Challenge kicked off yesterday!

So I’m gonna share a bit of whats going on over here!

Today we enjoyed some homemade pasta carbonara, real food cinnamon and chocolate chip muffins, watermelon and lacto-fermented ginger mint lime soda, among other things. These were just the most delicious =)




Tomorrow we’re off to the farmer’s market to stock up on some fresh, local organic veggies and things!

I’ll definitely be sharing recipes from what I get tomorrow!!

Today was pretty delicious and successful. enjoying the challenge!!

7-Day Real Food Challenge!

So I’m joining up with some other bloggers for a real food challenge!

Its quite simple really, for 7 days, starting July 21st, absolutely only real food. No refined sugars, no store bought, pre-made, processed crap, homemade everything, basically, the lifestyle I’m working towards and that I endorse on this blog.

Super exciting!!

Mary, over at Mary’s Kitchen is hosting and there are currently 7 bloggers in on it, not including me.

I hope to update at least twice during the week about how its going. Mary plans to update everyday and let you know how she’s doing! It’ll be like a week long detox from processed crap!!

Liebster Awards!

Well I was just nominated twice for a Liebster award!


The first thing I though of when I heard ‘Liebster award’ was seafood. Liebster-lobster…. I was confused. I have since learned that The Liebster Award is a way for bloggers to recognize other up-and-coming blogger with less than 200 followers. Sort of a chain letter, just for fun type deal. (By the way, ‘liebster’ is a German word meaning ‘dearest’).

  3. What character on The Big Bang Theory is your inner-geek? Sheldon. I love Sheldon.
  4. What is your preferred method for cooking bacon? In the oven. SO much faster!!
  5. Wearing white after Labor Day…..yes or no? Of course I do. I’m a rebel!

  8. Favorite season? Fall. Its so pretty and not too hot or cold!
  9. Have you ever grown your own food? I am right now! Getting closer to being able to pick some of it.

  1. What did you have for lunch today? Its not lunch time yet! But yesterday I had roasted jalapeno burgers, watermelon, homemade salsa and cantaloupe, yay picnics!
  2. Do you watch/read Game of Thrones?  Who’s your favorite character?  Nope! No cable =P
  3. Favorite adult beverage? I’m only 19 =( But I think fruity drinks look really pretty!
  4. What special skills do you have that would enable you to survive the zombie apocalypse? I’m a pretty good shot with a rifle.

  7. Explain to the old folks what “crunchy” means in today’s vernacular? It basically means your a tree hugging hippie. Urban Dictionary has a pretty good description (for once)-
    Crunchy- Adjective. Used to describe persons who have adjusted or altered their lifestyle for environmental reasons. Crunchy persons tend to be politically strongly left-leaning and may be additionally but not exclusively categorized as vegetarians, vegans, eco-tarians, conservationists, environmentalists, neo-hippies, tree huggers, nature enthusiasts, etc.
  8. How many blog parties do you participate in? All of the real food, natural living, Eco-friendly, DIY ones I can find!
  9. Android or iPhone? Android. Hands down. iPhones are evil.
  10. What’s the name of the last movie to make you cry? I cry at every movie. I  cry at Lion King every time. And I know what happens. I think the last movie that made me cry was a gangster movie my fiance was watching because there was a sad baby in it.
  11. How many items are in your purse right now? Probably a million. Cloth diapers, diaper covers, sunglasses, money (not very much), cards, trash, dirty diapers, wipes, baby toys, binkys, teethers, keys….

11 random things about myself-

1- I never clip my daughter’s finger nails, I bite them off because I’m scared to cut her fingers. 2- I love sappy TV dramas. 3- I’m deathly afraid of bugs. Especially if they fly. 4- I love spiders. 5- I want to live in a small cabin by a river in the woods when we buy a house. 6- I despise being pregnant with every fiber of my being. But I love babies and want 4 kids. 7- I have 10 nieces and 2 nephews. 8- I don’t like, trust, or believe most things doctor’s have to say. 9- I hate heat. HATE IT! I like cool. 10- I love bubble baths. 11- I’ve always wanted a different nationality. I don’t like being pasty white with a heritage I know nothing about.
